Quake Jolts Northwestern Iranian Town

TEHRAN -- An earthquake measuring 3.5 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale shook the town of Khorramdarreh, in the northwestern province of Zanjan, on Friday, IRNA reported.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute affiliated to Tehran University said the tremor, epicentered in an area northwest of Khorramdarreh, occurred at 13:32 hours local time (0902 GMT).
There were no reports of any casualty or damage caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrences.
Since 1991, over 950 earthquakes have hit the country resulting in 17,600 deaths and 53,300 injuries.
